A co-worker of mine has just forwarded the following 'story' to me. I wonder if [info]pdx42 has already heard about this or even knows who Dick Forrey is.

This is pretty interesting.....

Subject: Target stores

By Dick Forrey of the Vietnam Veterans Association

Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud
sponsor of the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring
recognition event.

We received the following reply from the local TARGET
management:

"Veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only
donate to the arts, social action
groups, gay & lesbian causes, and education."

So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall
and veterans in general do not meet their donation
criteria, then something is really wrong at this
TARGET store.

We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even
hundreds, just a small sponsorship
for a memorial remembrance.

As a follow-up, I e-mailed the TARGET U.S. corporate
headquarters and
their response was the same. That's their national
policy.

Then I looked into the company further.

They will not allow the Marines to collect for 'Toys
for Tots' at any of their stores.

And during the recent Iraq deployment, they would not
allow families of employees who were called up for
active duty to continue their insurance coverage while
they were on military service.

Then ..as I dig further, TARGET IS a French-owned
corporation.

Now, I'm thinking again. If TARGET cannot support
American Veterans, then why should I and my family
support their stores by spending our hard earned
American dollars and to have their profits sent to
France.

Without the American Vets, where would France be
today?

Feel free to pass this along to whomever you want.

In fact, Please do pass this along to friends and
family. I for one will no longer suppo rt this
retail chain. I will NOT shop in a Target store ever
again.

Sincerely,

Dick Forrey

I've read from so many people on LJ or via email that they're getting/have been sick, now I feel under the weather myself... Must be one of those computer viruses.
Took the bus today to be fit for tomorrow's show. Hope I won't forget to pick up the ticket after work. It'll be a long, slow day...

woke up to NPR's disaster report and the first visual that came to mind was Wumpscut's 'Line of corpses'... what a somber and depressing way to wake up and start your day with.

I really hope that the rescue worker in Louisianna do everything possible to let those motherf*** morons who are looting and shooting athelicopters die.
This is a manmade disaster and we better get used to more of its dimension. I'd like to send a whole-heartedly Fuck You to everybody who still believes that we've always had bad storms and that global warming is a theory rather than fact.
I cannot imagine having to evacuate my house without being able to take Josh. I don't know what I'd do. Knowing that my baby will drown/starve to death would kill me. Might as well ram a sharp knife into both of us and call it a day - or life. I've planned on getting a sportsmassage soon, since my pain in my butt is getting worse and worse, but I took the money and donated it to the Humane Society of the United States and another Disaster Rescue Fund instead. Listening to this gentleman on the radio who stated that he's fine but the hardest thing for him is that he doesn't know where his 4 cats are almost ripped my heart out. I'm loosing all faith in humanity when I hear that someone shot at the rescue helicopter, and that people start looting - I understand the need for food and liquids, but when they feel the need to rob jewelry and clothing just before they want to be rescued, I wonder what's going on in their heads... However, thinking about the millions of animal cadavers that will flood Southern streets very soon makes me sick to my stomach. I hope that all those furry and feathery creatures will die soon without prolonged suffering.

...to live in a country where the prez is willing to prematurely end his well-deserved vacation two days after the South has been hit by the most devastating hurricane ever. He can be so proud of himself that he has been sitting still on his stinking ass until today to go back to DC and find out more about what he could do to help. I don't even know if that's his intention, or if he's gearing up to defend his military budget from being shortened for emergency funding to rebuild New Orleans...
